Are you looking for laptops with the Nvidia GTX 1070 graphics card? The GTX 1070 was released in 2016, but it’s still an excellent choice. And with Nvidia currently promoting the newer Turing RTX cards, prices have significantly dropped for laptops with GTX 1070,a nd the other Pascal based cards. In this short articles, we have compiled a list of some of the best laptops with GTX 1070 available right now.

About the Nvidia GTX 1070:

The Nvidia GTX 1070 runs on Nvidia’s Pascal GPU architecture, and was released in August 2016. It is built on the 16 nm process, and supports DirectX 12.0. The laptop version of the GeForce GTX 1070 has 2,048 shader processors, 128 texture mapping units and 64 ROPs. There is also  8,192 MB GDDR5 memory on the card, and the GPU operates at a frequency of 1442 MHz, and up to 1645 MHz. The Memory has a Bandwidth of 256.3 GB/s.

In terms of gaming, the GTX 1070 is very capable, even with the recent titles. You will be able to run most games at high to ultra settings, and still get 60-70 FPS. The GTX 1070 is also capable of running many titles in QHD and 4K. However, keep in mind that the GPU is not everything when it comes to gaming performance; some games also require a powerful CPU and RAM. VR is also possible with the GTX 1070.

What’s the difference between the GTX 1070 and GTX 1070 Max Q?

For thin and light gaming laptops Nvidia came with a “Max-Q” version of the GTX 1070 with lower TDP and also significantly lower performance. Nvidia actually worked hard with laptop manufactures and made a new standard for slimness, performance and cooling. The main plan is to make laptops quieter. Less power consumption means less heat and less heat means your fans won’t have to spin as fast. That equals less noise.

The Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q is a bit slower than the regular GTX 1070. and overall, offers an average of about 12,5% slower performance. The base frequency is also a bit lower (1101-1215 MHz versus 1433 MHz). Same goes for the memory boost )1265-1379 MHz versus 1645MHz).

So, if you need a gaming laptop that you’ll mainly use at home, then definitely go for a regular GTX 1070. However, if you want a slim gaming laptop, then the GTX 1070 Max-Q might be a better option. After all, many users besides games are interested in gaming laptops; and a lot of engineers and creative professionals use them instead of a more expensive workstation laptop.

  • ASUS ROG Zephyrus S GX531GS-AH76

Right off the bat we’ll start with an ultra-slim laptop. Having an 8th generation of Intel Core i7 8750H (up to 3.9GHz) processor you can’t go wrong. It’s made for high performance and gaming laptops. It has six cores with two threads per core, and it’s equipped with 16GB 2666Hz DDR4 and a 512GB SSD, this laptop is the real deal.

Because it’s a ultra-slim laptop, it’s using the Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q.

One thing we realized as soon as we started testing is that only a SSD drive won’t be enough for gaming. You will need an external hard drive.

The screen size is 15.6 inch, 144 Hz IPS type and the max display resolution is 1920 x 1080 pixels. Because of the 144 Hz 3ms refresh rate, games never looked better. Because it has a smaller bezel, you will feel like you are working on a much larger screen.

This laptop isn’t short on ports for connectivity. It comes with a 3.5mm audio jack, two USB 2.0 ports, three USB 3.1 Type-C ports and a HDMI 2.0 port. The battery in this laptop is only 60Wh, and it lasts for only about 2 hours under heavy use..

But we knew what a monster of a laptop this is with everything it had under the hood and for this price range we couldn’t expect a better battery. We had no problem keeping it plugged in and playing anything that we wanted.

  • Omen By HP 15-dc0045nr

We are stepping up the game slowly with the Omen by HP 15-dc0045nr. This gaming laptop is equipped with the same processor as the MSI GE63 Raider RGB-010 above. The Intel Core i7 8750H (up to 4.1 GHz) is the high-end processor you want to have in your laptop. It has 6 cores but it can execute up to 12 cores thanks to Hyper-Threading. Now comes the best part – it comes with 32 GB DDR4-2666 SDRAM (upgradable with 2 accessible Memory Slots). The hard drive is 512GB and is SSD.

Depending on availability, you can adjust and buy the alternative 16GB RAM with 128GB SSD and 1TB SATA HD if you like that more.

One thing to note is that this laptop doesn’t come with the standard Nvidia GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card. It has the Max-Q version that is used in slim laptops. We talked about it in the introduction.

  • GIGABYTE Aero 15X v8-BK4

The GIGABYTE Aero 15X v8-BK4 is the most expensive laptop on this list. It comes with the Intel Core i7-8750H (up to 4.1GHz) processor we mentioned quite a few times earlier. We won’t waste anymore time on it except we’ll say it’s 50% faster than its predecessor.

Because of the thin chassis, it’s an ultra slim gaming laptop and the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1070 Max-Q version is in this one.

GIGABYTE Aero 15X v8-BK4 comes with a 15 inch, 144Hz IPS Anti-Glare FHD Display with a max resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels.

You may ask yourself what makes this laptop so expensive?

It is equipped with Thunderbolt™ 3: The Lead in Port Technology. It’s able to achieve speeds of up to 40Gbps and is able to connect to an 4K display. The port is also reversible!

It comes with a whopping 16GB of DDR4 RAM (1x 16 GB @ 2.666 MHz) and has another slot so you can easily upgrade to 32GB if you want. This laptop also comes with a 512GB M.2 NVMe SSD and there is no space for upgrade. GIGABYTE reserved this place for its battery.

The battery is 94 Wh, biggest on this list and should have a huge life. And it does. On maximum brightness and maximum settings on games we got a total of 2 hours 40 minutes out of this laptop. GIGABYTE promises 8.5 hours of movie playback or 8.5 hours of movie surfing with WLAN. We didn’t test that out but with the 94Wh battery it should be able to do that easily.

This is the last laptop on our list of the best laptops with the GTX 1070 GPU. They call it a flagship and the Dell Alienware 17 R5 really is that.

The same Intel Core i7-8750H (up to 4.1GHz) processor as mentioned earlier is in this laptop.

It comes with 32GB DDR4 SDRAM (2400MHz) and a 1TB SSD plus an extra 1TB Hard Drive for extra storage.

It’s the only laptop on this list with a 17 inch screen, 1920x 1080 pixel max resolution and the standard Nvidia GTX 1070.

This laptop has a great battery saving software. We managed a whopping 3 hours and 47 minutes of nonstop use. The premium laptop average is 3 hours 26 minutes.

With this laptop you will slice through games like with a knife through butter. You can play any game on maximum details and still have really high FPS. What we realized early on is that the cooling on this monster is amazing! The fans don’t make much noise since it doesn’t produce too much heat. Buying this laptop will probably have you set for quite a few years for anything the market brings out.
